Skills in Demand Visa (SUBCLASS 482)

The Subclass 482 (formerly known as TSS visa) allows skilled workers to be sponsored by approved Australian employers in a specific occupation. It offers pathways to permanent residency for medium-term stream holders.

Three Streams of the Subclass 482 Visa

STSOLUp to 2 years (or 3 years for certain sectors)

Short-term Stream

For workers in occupations on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL). Does not lead directly to permanent residency but allows a pathway via Subclass 186 (TRT stream) after 3 years.

MLTSSLUp to 4 years

Medium-term Stream

For workers in occupations on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). Allows multiple visa grants and provides a direct pathway to permanent residency via Subclass 186 or 187.

LABVaries (per agreement)

Labour Agreement Stream

For workers sponsored under a labour agreement between an employer and the Australian Government. Terms, including duration and obligations, are dictated by the specific agreement.

Become a Standard Business Sponsor (SBS)

The employer applies to become an approved SBS through ImmiAccount.

Nominate the Position

Submit a nomination application specifying the occupation, salary, and business justification.

Worker Lodges Visa Application

Once nomination is approved, the skilled worker applies for Subclass 482 (or concurrently).

Eligibility Criteria for Skilled Workers

Nominated in an eligible occupation by an approved Standard Business Sponsor (SBS).
Hold a positive skills assessment from the relevant Australian assessing authority.
Have at least 2 years of relevant full-time work experience in the nominated occupation.
Meet the Competent English language requirement (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent).
Satisfy health and character requirements of the Department of Home Affairs.
Be offered a salary at or above TSMIT and at the Annual Market Salary Rate.
